# §250.827. Surface-controlled SSSVs—subsea trees.


You must equip all tubing installations open to a hydrocarbon-bearing zone that is capable of natural flow with a surface-controlled SSSV, except as specified in §§ [250.829](/cfr/30/250.829.md) and [250.830](/cfr/30/250.830.md). The surface controls must be located on the host facility.
