# §1229.4. Authority.


The Secretary of the DOI is authorized under provisions of [30 U.S.C. 1735](/usc/30/1735.md) to delegate authority to States to conduct audits and related investigations with respect to all Federal lands within a State, and to those Indian lands to which a State has received permission from the respective Indian tribe(s) or allottee(s) to carry out audit activities under a delegation from the Secretary.
