# §1000.180. What if more than 50 Tribes/Consortium apply to participate in Self-Governance?


The first 50 Tribes/Consortium who apply and are determined to be eligible under [§ 1000.160](/cfr/25/1000.160.md) shall have the option to begin to participate in self-governance. Any Tribe/Consortium denied participation due to the limitation in number of Tribes/Consortium is entitled to participate in the next fiscal year, provided the Tribe/Consortium remains eligible under [25 U.S.C. 5362(c)](/usc/25/5362.md?p=c).
