# §650.501. Purpose.


This subpart sets the national minimum standards for the proper safety inspection and evaluation of all highway tunnels in accordance with [23 U.S.C. 144(h)](/usc/23/144.md?p=h) and the requirements for preparing and maintaining an inventory in accordance with [23 U.S.C. 144(b)](/usc/23/144.md?p=b).
