# §3.2. Authority.

- (a) **Section 515(a)(1) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1978 (91 Stat.** 862-866), approved August 17, 1977, (hereafter referred to as “the Act”) amended [section 7342](/usc/5/7342.md) of title 5, U.S. Code (1976), making substantial changes in the law relating to the acceptance and retention of gifts and decorations from foreign governments.
- (b) [5 U.S.C. 7342(g)](/usc/5/7342.md?p=g) authorizes each employing agency to prescribe regulations as necessary to carry out the new law.
