# §171.10. Purpose and scope.


This subpart contains the rules that the Department follows under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) as amended, [5 U.S.C. 552](/usc/5/552.md). The rules should be read together with the FOIA, which provides additional information about access to records and contains the specific exemptions that are applicable for withholding information; the Uniform Freedom of Information Fee Schedule and Guidelines published by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB Guidelines) (see www.justice.gov/oip/foia-resources#s5); and information located at www.foia.state.gov.
