# §184.1521. Monosodium phosphate derivatives of mono- and diglycerides.

- (a) Monosodium phosphate derivatives of mono- and diglycerides are composed of glyceride derivatives formed by reacting mono- and diglycerides that are derived from edible sources with phosphorus pentoxide (tetraphosphorus decoxide) followed by neutralization with sodium carbonate.
- (b) The ingredient must be of a purity suitable for its intended use.
- (c) In accordance with [§ 184.1(b)(1)](/cfr/21/184.1.md?p=b-1), the ingredient is used in food with no limitation other than current good manufacturing practice. The affirmation of this ingredient as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as a direct human food ingredient is based upon the following current good manufacturing practice conditions of use:
  - (1) The ingredient is used in food as an emulsifier and emulsifier salt as defined in [§ 170.3(o)(8)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=o-8) of this chapter, a lubricant and release agent as defined in [§ 170.3(o)(18)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=o-18) of this chapter, and as a surface-active agent as defined in [§ 170.3(o)(29)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=o-29) of this chapter.
  - (2) The ingredient is used in the following foods at levels not to exceed current good manufacturing practice: dairy product analogs as defined in [§ 170.3(n)(10)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=n-10) of this chapter and soft candy as defined in [§ 170.3(n)(38)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=n-38) of this chapter.
- (d) Prior sanctions for this ingredient different from the uses established in this section do not exist or have been waived.
