# §184.1293. Ethyl alcohol.

- (a) **Ethyl alcohol (ethanol) is the chemical C<I>2</I>H<I>5</I>OH.**
- (b) **The ingredient meets the specifications of the “Food Chemicals Codex,” 4th ed.**
  - (1996) , p. 136, which is incorporated by reference in accordance with 5 U.S.C. [552(a)](/usc/5/552.md?p=a) and [1](/usc/5/1.md) CFR [part 51](/cfr/21/part51.md). - (c) The ingredient is used as an antimicrobial agent as defined in [§ 170.3(o)(2)](/cfr/21/170.3.md?p=o-2) of this chapter on pizza crusts prior to final baking at levels not to exceed 2.0 percent by product weight.
- (d) This regulation is issued prior to general evaluation of use of this ingredient in order to affirm as GRAS the specific use named.
