# §194.209. Additional qualification requirements for certain pilots serving as second-in-command.

- (a) A person who obtains at least a private pilot certificate with a powered-lift category rating by satisfactorily completing the practical test in a powered-lift that is precluded from performing each task required by [§ 61.43(a)(1)](/cfr/14/61.43.md?p=a-1) of this chapter may not serve as second-in-command of a powered-lift that is capable of performing the tasks that were waived on the person's practical test until the person has—
  - (1) Received and logged ground and flight training from an authorized instructor on the specific tasks that were waived on the person's practical test; and
  - (2) Received a logbook or training record endorsement from an authorized instructor certifying the person has satisfactorily demonstrated proficiency of those tasks.
- (b) The training and endorsement required by [paragraph (a)](#a) of this section are not required if, prior to serving as second-in-command, a person meets one of the following requirements—
  - (1) Successfully completes the practical test for a powered-lift type rating, and the practical test includes each task required by [§ 61.43(a)(1)](/cfr/14/61.43.md?p=a-1) of this chapter; or
  - (2) Has received ground and flight training under an approved training program and has satisfactorily completed a competency check under [§ 135.293](/cfr/14/135.293.md) or [§ 91.1065](/cfr/14/91.1065.md) of this chapter in a powered-lift, and the approved training and checking include each task that was previously waived in accordance with [§ 194.207(b)](/cfr/14/194.207.md?p=b).
- (c) An applicant receiving flight training under [§ 194.221](/cfr/14/194.221.md), [§ 194.223](/cfr/14/194.223.md), [§ 194.229](/cfr/14/194.229.md), or [§ 194.231](/cfr/14/194.231.md) may serve as second-in-command in a powered-lift type certificated for more than one required pilot flight crewmember without meeting the requirements of § [61.55(a)(1)](/cfr/14/61.55.md?p=a-1), [(a)(2)](/cfr/14/61.55.md?p=a-2), and [(b)(2)](/cfr/14/61.55.md?p=b-2) of this chapter.
