# §338.1. Purpose.


The purpose of this subpart is to prohibit FDIC-supervised institutions from engaging in discriminatory advertising with regard to residential real estate-related transactions. This subpart also requires FDIC-supervised institutions to publicly display either the Equal Housing Lender poster set forth in [§ 338.4(b)](/cfr/12/338.4.md?p=b) or the Equal Housing Opportunity poster prescribed by [24 CFR part 110](/cfr/24/part110.md) of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development's regulations. This subpart enforces [section 805](/cfr/12/805.md) of title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, [42 U.S.C. 3601-3619](/usc/42/3601-3619.md) (Fair Housing Act), as amended by the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988.
