# §31.1. Purpose and scope.


This part establishes general licenses for the possession and use of byproduct material and a general license for ownership of byproduct material. Specific provisions of [10 CFR Part 30](/cfr/10/part30.md) are applicable to general licenses established by this part. These provisions are specified in [§ 31.2](/cfr/10/31.2.md) or in the particular general license.
